A voice of Reason

Makes a lot of sense to me.

A voice of reason.  . . .Stay Healthy, happy and safe.

Dr. Henry is the Provincial Health Officer for British Columbia,

the first woman in this position.

She is also an associate professor at the University of British Columbia.

She has a background in epidemiology

and is a specialist in public health and preventive medicine.

She is also from PEI.

The Wisdom of Dr. Bonnie Henry

1. We may have to live with COVID-19 for months or years. Let’s not deny it or panic.

Let’s not make our lives useless. Let’s learn to live with this fact.

2. You can’t destroy COVID-19 viruses that have penetrated cell walls,

by drinking gallons of hot water you’ll just go to the bathroom more often.

3. Washing hands and maintaining a two-meter physical distance

is the best method for your protection.

4. If you don’t have a COVID-19 patient at home,

there’s no need to disinfect the surfaces at your house.

5. Packaged cargo, gas pumps, shopping carts and ATMs do not cause infection.

If you wash your hands, live your life as usual.

6. COVID-19 is not a food infection. It is associated with drops of infection like the ‘flu.

There is no demonstrated risk that COVID-19 is transmitted by food.

7. You can lose your sense of smell with a lot of allergies and viral infections.

This is only a non-specific symptom of COVID-19.

8. Once at home, you don’t need to change your clothes urgently and go shower!

Purity is a virtue, paranoia is not!

9. The COVID-19 virus doesn’t hang in the air for long.

This is a respiratory droplet infection that requires close contact.

10. The air is clean, you can walk through the gardens and through parks

(just keeping your physical protection distance).

11. It is sufficient to use normal soap against COVID-19, not antibacterial soap.

This is a virus, not a bacteria.

12. You don’t have to worry about your food orders.

But you can heat it all up in the microwave, if you wish.

13. The chances of bringing COVID-19 home with your shoes is like being struck

by lightning twice in a day. I’ve been working against viruses

for 20 years — drop infections don’t spread like that!

14. You can’t be protected from the virus by taking vinegar,

sugarcane juice and ginger! These are for immunity not a cure.

15. Wearing a mask for long periods interferes with your breathing

and oxygen levels. Wear it only in crowds.

16. Wearing gloves is also a bad idea; the virus can accumulate into the glove

and be easily transmitted if you touch your face.

Better just to wash your hands regularly.

Immunity is greatly weakened by always staying in a sterile environment.

Even if you eat immune boosting foods,

please go out of your house regularly to any park/beach.

Immunity is increased by EXPOSURE TO PATHOGENS,

not by sitting at home and consuming fried/ spicy/sugary food and aerated drinks.

Be smart and stay informed!  Live life sensibly and to the fullest.

Be Kind, Be Calm and Be Safe!

Sincerely, Dr. Bonnie Henry

I think this is also worth forwarding to your friends and family.

This is an excellent list! I had to laugh at #9 — when I was growing up, the worst insult you could give another student was “ew, you have cooties.” Fairly on in the pandemic, when they were trying to figure out how Covid was spread, it sounded as if it might be airborne — I had visions of cooties flying around in the air infecting everybody! Thank goodness that’s not the way it spreads!!!

  2. Unfortunately this list is not accurate. I did a quick look up and it’s been circulating since last year. It’s not from her.

Dr. Bonnie Henry is indeed very smart and well respected. She handled the SARS virus earlier in her career when she was based in Toronto.

  3. I saw this list last year and then saw this article… Wisdom From Dr. Bonnie Henry’ List On Facebook Is Fake — And Inaccurate

#15 made me question this and then all the comments pointing out that it wasn’t penned by Dr. Henry … Some of it is good advice but wearing a mask does not do you any harm – even wearing it for hours!!

Dang. One time when I didn’t check the source.
It was sent to me as an email from a friend in Canada. Now I want to delete this post and don’t know how to go about it.

  6. To delete a post , here is what I would make, Zakiah. .
    1-click on edit
2 – when you are on the editor you will see on the right: MOVE TO TRash . Click on
    Love ❤

  7. Zakiah says:

The problem is Michel, in my post I do not see “edit” anywhere. I have searched for it for 24 hours. That was the reason for my post about the paintings. ha.

  8. You should find a “My Home” page or “My Site” page…and on the left hand side of the page click on “WP Admin”…this should take you to “Dashboard” where you can click on “Posts” then “All Posts”…go to your post that you want to delete…when you put your mouse-arrow on/under the title it gives you options…one option is “Trash” in red letters…clicking on that should send that post to the “Trash”.

Or at the bottom of any post you have up it should show you the number of comments on that post and then the world Edit under it. If you click on Edit it should take you to the place where you put your post together and on the right hand side of that page you have options to make that post “Public”, “Private”, or “Move to Trash.”

Let me know if any of this helps. I’m not sure if I explained it well.
