Just thought I would post a few of my paintings here. Not trying to brag or anything, just wanted to let you all know that I am keeping myself busy. I paint every night. Every single night!
Quincy is a small town, but it is a very eclectic and culturally sophisticated town. Every year there is a Juried Art Show, and the members of the local Arts Clubs and public are invited to submit their work. On a lark I had submitted two paintings last year in November. Just because! I knew very well that I was a nobody in the rich artistic membership of the town. However, I about dropped my dentures (J/K) when I received a letter that both my paintings were selected and will be viewed by the judge who came from another state.
So this year, I thought I would do the same. I know that just because my paintings were selected last year, it doesn’t mean that they will be selected again this year. But hope and greed go cheek by jowl, me thinks! So here are the three paintings I have submitted this year. Let me know what you all think.
The first one is a watercolor painting of a bird sitting on the eggs in a nest in the fall, as seen by the color of the leaves. I painted this month or so ago.
The second painting also is a watercolor of a cheetah hidden in the bushes, almost telling me, “I see you!” I painted this also around May or June of this year.
The third painting, is a sad depiction of the fires in California. A photo was published in the local newspaper. I had sat at the breakfast table and couldn’t take my eyes off that photo. So I decided to paint it and titled it Despair. Also water color.
The next few paintings are just something that appeal to me, flowers and leaves and birds. This one of the pigeon hangs in my studio downstairs. It looks as if the pigeon is asking, “did somebody knock”? I kind of like the bird droppings on the ledge and the sill.
These leaves I picked from the driveway, and etched around them. For contrast i added some silver foil to the painting, which makes the back ground shine
Finally, I love to paint flowers. I painted this a couple of nights back. M thought I should have submitted this on for the Art Show. But I know the caliber of the paintings and artists that display their work there, and my work is absolutely nothing compared to what there will be.
I am also trying to get back to writing a little.
OUR DREAMS.
The colors are the same,
with same beginnings and
same ends
of my dreams and
of your dreams.
We will walk together
hand in hand always.
seems like this meeting
and this symbiosis
of you and me, was predestined.
Life of my life,
your sorrows I own now
I give you my joys in return
so your beautiful eyes
can dazzle my world.
We shall dream together
have our own beginnings
share our one destination
of love and passion
to be your life and give of my life!

Zakiah — you know I love your paintings — my favorites here are the bird in the nest, the flowers, and the Californians running from fire. I hope they will all be judged into the show! The California one is being repeated right now in the surroundings of Sydney, Australia — I think their fires may be worse than ours, even though far, far away from here! Despair is a perfect title for that painting!
I hear the Australian fires in New South Wales is being contained as of yesterday. So devastating. Enough already, I say!
Thank you for the comment on the paintings Janet. You know i love to wet the brush. I hope at least one of them gets selected.
I’ve been watching the Australian fire news reports — unfortunately, there is a second wave of fires predicted for tomorrow and the weekend. It’s beautiful country on the eastern side of NSW and QLD — what a shame to lose so much there!
Lovely paintings. Lovely poem.
i’m impressed that you paint every night.
Hi Carrie. Thank you for stopping by. I paint every night. Every single night. some nights I paint cards. Send me your address and i will send you a card for the holidays, painted by me to my special xanga/WP friend.
I am glad you like my poem. It is not new, i just added it here. I think i had written it in 2014.
❤ ❤ ❤
Love the bird and the flowers in the last paint the best. You are talented
I don’t know if i am talented. I enjoy painting, a lot. I am glad you liked the flowers and the bird painting.
You enjoy it that’s all that matters
You are so talented and I’m glad you are continuing to paint. Your mischievous humor had me laughing “But hope and greed go cheek by jowl, me thinks!”. I hope the judges will see the beauty in your painting.
I GOT RU TODAY! So happy, because I finished the other one an hour or so before it arrived. Now i have “White Teeth, Educated, and Before We Were Yours” to fifnish. My winter read for the Book club is Bone Tree.
Thank you Mattie for appreciating my work. I enjoy it so much. Reminds of the way Saadi used to play the piano when she was a little girl. It used to be in the drawing room, and every time she had to cross the room, she would sit and play something, even if it be for just two or three minutes. I don’t think she even knew that she was doing that. It was such a hypnotic act with her. I feel the same way about painting.
My dear Zakiah, God has certainly blessed you with so much talent: as a doctor, as a poet, and as a wonderful artist! (I LOVE your art!! And the fact that you paint daily shows that you are serious about painting!) I failed to mention that you are also a good cook – from the look of all of the food on the table when you have family all over for a sumptuous feast! Thank you for being my friend, too. Love and Hugs… Carolyn
Such a sweet comment! Love it. Thank you Carolyn. I am deeply grateful for the life i lead and the blessings i have in my life. You are so kind to give me such a morale booster with your touching comment.
I don’t know if i am a good cook. I can make somethings…. and to think that I didn’t have a clue as to how anyone cooks the simplest things, like making tea, boiling an egg or even heating water, was a complete novelty to me! I lived and i learned! ❤ ❤ ❤ Hugs.
The one that speaks to me is
The one that speaks more to me is Fire in California . With your painting you express very well the despair of the Man face such a catastrophe and also his lack of power to control this.
How are you, Zakiah ?
Love ❤
Michel
Dear Michel,
I am well by God’s grace. I am so blessed with such wonderful friends like you. Thank you for your kind words. I pray that you are doing well.
California fires have ravaged so much and brought such an agonizing reality to all of us, each year. Truly there is despair all around those areas.
Love,
Zakiah.
Glad to know your health is improving, zakiah. The color chosen for that painting says well this agonising reality .
Oh, SweetZ! All of your paintings are winners in my book! I think the ones you submitted will be selected by the judges for the show! But more important than that…your paintings AND your poems are winners because they evoke emotions, memories, thoughts…they inspire and bring joy!
Your art begins in your loving heart and is expressed through mind and your hands! Keep painting and keep writing! You add color to the world and in doing so you make the world a better place!
HUGS!!! 🙂
PS… “I about dropped my dentures” and “But hope and greed go cheek by jowl, me thinks!” made me snort-laugh! 😀
Love ya. ❤ ❤ ❤
Dear Carolyn, You are such a comfort and have such a peaceful presence on these pages. Always complimenting and so sincere in your words. I wish i could have the same talent of making every one feel as good as you make others feel. Thank you dear heart, i love your work and hope you are doing well.
❤ ❤ and hugs.
You’re welcome, SweetZ! 🙂
lovely poem and art … you have talent! Don’t be shy about submitting them judges are looking for different art 🙂
The last two particularly appeal to me the flowers and the leaves . Never seen a cheetah but I know that snow leopards peek like that then vanish 🙂
So good of you to come here and comment Kate. Thank you for your encouragement. Oh I am not shy, definitely not when it comes to paintings. I may wonder if they are worth showing, but I always let my friends at the Art Center take a look at my work. They are good critics. That helps a lot.
that’s so lovely that you have reliable critics whose opinions you can trust 🙂
Hello. Do you see me

Yes janu I see you. But I don’t have the link of your Manila trip yet.
LOVE your paintings. Hugs
Reblogged this on alabeti and commented:
This is an addendum to my post above.. I received a mail from the director of the Art Club. It stated that “they loved my paintings, and thought that they were excellent.” But, yes there is a but! But none of them were selected by the Judge who was from another state. SO I brought my paintings home and hung the one of the bird in the nest in my drawing room. Looks quite good there, me thinks!
I’m so sorry your paintings were not included in the juried show — but I’m sure the bird in the nest looks wonderful on your wall! I’d look at it like a job application — your paintings are wonderful, but just not what they were looking for ~ ~ it will be interesting to know what their choices look like!
Love and hugs,
Janet
HA! I had a feeling that my paintings were not up to par. Another artist from my group, got one of her paintings of a pig in. I haven’t seen it yet. Sometimes you just don’t know what tickles the judge’s fancy. Yeah, just like the job application or submitting an article for publication to a good magazine where it is rejected AGAIN! Kind of funny. But I am totally okay with this Janet. Thank you so much for the sweet, sweet comment.
Your paintings are visually stunning i love them..i love the bird and the California fire..it may have not made to the Jurors’ way but that doesnt mean they are bad. Sometimes judges have specifics and particulars that they are looking for. And a work of art such as your paintings and poetry is already a winner on its own the moment you finish it…
Way to go !!!!
You made my day! What a morale booster comment. Thank you. I was not really upset that I didn’t get selected, and I am sure there are many who had much better art than mine. Rejection is not a stranger to me! 🙂 🙂
Thank you for the beautiful words.
Your welcome Zak…(shall i call you Zak or your prefer something else?)…
I like to be called Zakiah. Thank you for asking.
A few friends in medical school called me Zak, but they are gone now.
They are gone now? It sounds like you REALLY don’t like being called Zak!! Ha!
I don’t mind being called Zak. Some of my classmates and college mates who are still around, call me Zak. They are special and the fondness with which they call me up is unique. People on line and those whom I don’t know very well, don’t call me Zak.
Wow! You are getting better all the time!! I thought your painting was really good before but these are at the next level – the bird in the nest is excellent and the one titled Despair really has emotional impact!!
Hi Val, welcome back. Hope you had a good vacation. Thank you for your encouraging words. All the three paintings were not accepted for the juried show. Oh well. I brought the paintings home and have the bird in the nest painting up in the living room. I like it better there. I liked the Despair one too. There was a photo in the local newspaper, and it just did something to me. So I painted it.
