summer garden

Here I go again. Love the color in the front and back of the homestead. The front mainly has roses and some sunflowers. The gladiolus has not started blooming yet. They should in a couple of weeks or so.

Love the color on these day lilies. So vibrant.

The giant hibiscus is so glamorous. Each bloom is larger than a dinner plate. The bush is full of them. Every winter I prune it down, and like the Old Faithful, I am blessed every spring and summer.

A good thing about the hydrangeas, is one bunch almost fills half the bush. These blooms used to be pink and mauve before. I wanted them blue and slightly lavender. So I mixed some vinegar to water and added it to the base of the plant a couple of years ago. Voila! My favorite color!

Jumbo sunflowers. I love them. The plants are almost six to seven feet tall. Sometimes I have to stand on a garden bench to look at the flowers. These also are huge and larger than dinner plates in size.

I love dahlias. Love the different shades of color in one single flower. I have several of them growing in the front and friends always stop by to comment and take photos.

This is a new one to my garden. It is called teddy bear sunflower. I just love it. So, like i said, lots of color and lots of fun this summer.

We have had sweltering heat last week but fortunately the weather has turned after a couple of thunder storms. Noah my grandson came over this past weekend.( He is doing summer internship at an architectural firm in St. Louis.) He and Saadi played tennis in the City tournament. Yes, in the brutal heat, where the temperatures were 98 in the shade and 114 on the courts!! They won the tourney in the Open Flight! Crazy mother and crazy grandson!
Tomorrow I am going with Saadi to St. Louis so we can have lunch with Noah. I hardly got time to spend with him this past weekend.

That’s it for now. I am not checking to see if there are typos or grammatical errors.

So ciao~~

Your garden is always so beautiful! I kind of feel sorry for your orchids – they must be a little jealous! Noah has grown up! I remember when he and Davis were just little boys!!

You have a pretty garden! I have some day lilies in the same colors. I didn’t plant them so I forgot I had them but they are blooming now!

What a lovely group of flowers in your yard this year! I love the blue hydrangeas — and the day lilies and the little sunflowers are really gorgeous too! That’s too hot to be playing tennis! I had lunch at the golf course today — we were indoors, but it was 106 outside (100 at home).– too hot for any golfers! We have a couple of days more ahead of us!

  5. Happy, the one who lives among a such beautifully flowered garden ! Such beauty is a blessing that ups the soul . Thanks for sharing, Zakiah.

Beautiful flowers. I think we had the same storms! May garden got some damage and somebody’s trampoline ended up in the street!

  7. Your garden is so gorgeous. I had no idea adding a bit of vinegar can change the colour of the hydrangeas.
