Ramadan

I think I write about this holy month every year. So we are in the last ten days  of the month and the Muslims are fasting and praying and asking for blessings on this holiest of holy months.

I have not fasted this year. My cardiologist dragged his ‘hmmmm’ a little too far. He thought I should wait out this year, and try fasting next year. He thinks I would get very tired by the end of the day, and may not feel good. Therefore I sent some money home to India and have asked my nephew and his wife to give it towards the feeding of some folks who fast and do not have enough resources to buy food. That’s what we are supposed to do. I hope my charity in this way is acceptable Up Above!

I cannot believe it has been almost a year since my MI. It was the first of July. Ramadan was just over when we had traveled to London on the 29th of June. Well, I have been feeling good, and haven’t had too much problem. I do my exercises two or three days a week for an hour each time, walk as much as possible, and have lost about twenty pounds, eating healthy. {{except today, when I had two mangoes and a dish of fried onion rings!! 😦   }} SOooo,  I think I am okay.

My sister sent mangoes from Florida. OMG! they are so good to eat, and have the best fragrance. Her daughter also has mango trees in her yard, and she has sent me a box of the same which I will receive tomorrow! I am on cloud nine. SO happy at this windfall.

My nephew’s daughter is getting married in India. The wedding will take place on the 3rd of August. He wants me to attend it. He thinks of me like as if I am his mother. Always refers to me like that. His mother was my older sister. The daughter is a physician. She always told me that she wants to be a physician like me, and wrote a very sweet letter to me after she got engaged; she says that she became a physician because she wanted to be like me, and now that she is getting married, she wants me there.

Don’t know what to do. If I go it will be for about ten or twelve days. Would love to go. But I am somewhat afraid to travel after the last stint in London.
What do you all think I should do?

About Zakiah

I write poetry and some fiction, have a book that was published in 2012. . . Stray Thoughts/Winged Words. I have four grandchildren, ages 16 and half to almost 16 months. I love the ocean, and grew up along the Indian Ocean in South India. I am a retired physician. Don't know much else to say. Thanks for reading. That has been my profile for so many years. My daughter Saadia a great poet and story teller, has two sons; the oldest grandson is now 21 years old, doing architectural engineering at Missouri S&T in Rolla MO. His younger brother is almost 16 and taking driving lessons seriously and is in High School. The other two grandsons, children of my son Sayeed, are 9 and 5. I have recently published another book titled Gulistan, A home of Flowers. It has stories and memories of my childhood and of a distant land which I still consider as my HOME., even though I have lived here in the US for more than fifty years. Hope to see you on my blog.

I would check with your physician and if he gives you the OK then by all means go and enjoy the celebration!

I have a feeling that he is going to say that I could go. My lab work has been good all along and my last checkup was good too. SO, hmmm. I will call him tomorrow and ask. Thanks Val.

And you could eat healthy – I hear the mangoes in India are the best in the world!!

    • Zakiah says:

ABSOLUTELY! They are the best HANDS DOWN!

I agree with Val — do what the doctor recommends. Unfortunately, India is a long way to travel, and you would be on a strange schedule, eating foods that are not strange but less common than usual for you at this point, and if the doctor wasn’t sure about fasting, he might not like the travel either. That’s a tough decision to make, but do take care of yourself first, following whatever the doctor suggests!

I know you are so right Janet. I have such pull towards that land. I want to go so badly, but I do not want to take chances. Yet, my very dear friend, who was my classmate is a cardiologist there, and he is titled by the Indian Government as the best of the best. So even though I am a little concerned I know I will be in good hands with my friend there. I will ask my MD here too. Thank you for the comment and the advise.

  4. Mangoes…Yum.
Father God sees our hearts. That’s what’s important. You are compassionate, loving, and giving…that’s what He sees.
I’d ask my Dr. but if it were me, I’d probably actually go. 🙂

  5. I think if the doctor doesn’t drag his hmmm… too long then go for it. You might have trouble getting travel insurance this time just in case.

For a moment, I thought you spoil those mangoes by bathing them and then cuddling them in a soft towel.

It’s glad to hear you are doing better. I have been missing your positive posts.

I would be careful making the treck to India. It’s a long journey. And then the question is where in India. I know the health care system is good in some parts of the country but is a major medical center close to where they are getting married?

  7. If the doc says it’s okay to travel…I think you should go! You are a very important person to be at this wonderful wedding! 🙂 I’m sure your nephew and his daughter will be so honored and thrilled to have you there!!! I get teary-eyed and goosebumps thinking about how wonderful it would be for you to be there with them! 🙂

God understands following Doctor’s orders. 🙂 And God sees your generous, giving, precious heart, SweetZ, so you and your kind deeds are more than acceptable! 🙂

I put mango in my yogurt recently…and YUM!!! OHMYGOSH!!! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) 🙂
