Just before I went to Chicago in January to be with Eunice, the Great River Watercolor Society held its annual exhibition of local artists at the Quincy University. A dear friend urged me to submit my work. I just laughed at her, because I knew that I am a small potato, having started painting just over a year or so, But she insisted and I gave in. She marked the prices on each painting, ( I was in Chicago by this time) which I thought were not more than 50 or 60 dollars each. Here are my paintings that I submitted. A total of six were submitted, and I see that I do not have the two other paintings on this camera. I have them on my cell phone and I don’t know how to transfer them here. I will post them at another time.
While I was in Chicago, my friend texted me. “Congratulations two of your paintings sold for 200 dollars each!” I didn’t know that she had priced them so high. OMG! And one of them had honorable mention. I just couldn’t pick my jaw off the ground. The paintings that sold, were the one of the rain scene with a couple kissing under the umbrella, and the other was of the mountains with fog and snow . The poppies got the honorable mention. All these painting’s were framed and looked neater than what they seemed when I first painted and took photos.
Just thought I would let you all know.
Good night.

These are beautiful, Zakiah! It’s hard to believe that you only started painting so recently — you had a latent talent!
Yay! Not only are you an excellent and published poet but you are now a recognized artist!! I can see why the painting of the couple kissing sold for $200 – it is excellent!
You are just an amazing and talented lady. Next time, price those paintings at $500. 🙂
Congrats. And I can see why you sold them. They look stunning.
That is awesome. Congrats.
Hugs.
I am not surprised at all, Zakiah . Your paintings are beautiful. . Continue;
