I am a road at night, and
in silence I relive the
memories of the footsteps of the day.

I listen to the heaviness
of the soldiers’ boots,
of the way they hated and killed–

the country praised them
called them heroes–
God, in shame hastens to hide
Its memory under the green grass!

In the morning the sunshine greets
me with a smile. My eyes rain tears
and I continue to talk to my heart!©

ZSA_MD June 2017.

The orchids are blooming after months of hibernation.

This one is a rare one. It only gets one bloom but stays alive for weeks at a time.

I love the speckles on this one. As if someone threw blood all over the white petals. And finally, IMG_6586

I just love this one. The almost pink petals have an orange center. These orchids are among my favorites.

Hope the fathers among my readers had a great day today. Have a great week!

About Zakiah

I write poetry and some fiction, have a book that was published in 2012. . . Stray Thoughts/Winged Words. I have four grandchildren, ages 16 and half to almost 16 months. I love the ocean, and grew up along the Indian Ocean in South India. I am a retired physician. Don't know much else to say. Thanks for reading. That has been my profile for so many years. My daughter Saadia a great poet and story teller, has two sons; the oldest grandson is now 21 years old, doing architectural engineering at Missouri S&T in Rolla MO. His younger brother is almost 16 and taking driving lessons seriously and is in High School. The other two grandsons, children of my son Sayeed, are 9 and 5. I have recently published another book titled Gulistan, A home of Flowers. It has stories and memories of my childhood and of a distant land which I still consider as my HOME., even though I have lived here in the US for more than fifty years. Hope to see you on my blog.

The orchids are magnificent, Zakiah — how intriguing that the one only has one blossom that lasts for a long time. Would that the world worked that way — I saw this immediately after the first news came through of another tragedy in London — I’m so very sorry to hear this — it seems that London is being undeservedly targeted these days. My love to you!

  2. I enjoyed reading the poem. It’s not long but it’s powerful.

Your orchids are gorgeous! The ones with the purple “ink splotches” look like you painted the white petals (of course you won’t).

    Beautiful writing and orchid-ones!

  4. Beautiful, powerful poem as always.
LOVE the orchids. They were a favorite of my father in law and still are for my mother in law (though she isn’t able to deal with plants since her stroke).
    love and hugs.

Your writing is so eloquent and artistic, it makes me self-conscious about my own! But never envious, because I get to read your words and share in their beauty, just as I get to when you post photos of your orchids or flowers. Speaking of which, I
was thinking more wine than blood on the splotchy one! The pink and orange is indeed amazing.

  8. Your poem is stunning, SweetZ!

The first 3 stanzas of your poem made me cry. The last stanza made me smile. Because with all that is going on in the world, and in the USA, I get sad…but when we can talk to our hearts and link our hearts with other people’s hearts it is a good thing. Oh, I wish that everyone could share the positives…love, joy, forgiveness, respect, kindness, appreciation, etc…that come from the heart! 🙂

Your orchids are stunning! They bring smiles! 🙂

BTW…I had Eunice and Dave on my mind, so I’ve been praying for them.

    HUGS!!! 🙂

You do have a green thumb!! I can’t even get a philodendron to grow!! I have resorted to silk plants. I always marvel at your poetry – you are able to capture so much emotion in so few words.
