I have these hungry squirrels that steal food from my bird feeders. And they are getting fat on the fruit/nut/millet/and sunflower seeds.

My gardener Todd had covered the pole with an acrylic polycarbonate tube, which we thought was long enough to deter these varmints from getting into the feed. For about two years, I was very pleased, and they didn’t bother the small birds. Now mind you, these squirrels had their own food. Every day or the other, I would put out cobs and cakes for them and they would inhale them. But they wanted the bird seeds. I had special formula of birdseeds and it is really good. I think these critters thought, ‘well, I want a share of that too!’ Greedy rascals!

Todd is bringing a longer tube, so that they cannot jump up to the end of that tube and do acrobatics to reach the bird feeder!  I can’t wait to spoil their plan! My poor birds. I should get my BB gun out and aim at them! Case in point— feast your eyes on this picture!

Cool shot. Hope you get the bird feeder squirrel free.

  7. Nice picture! I swear, squirrels are like ninjas. My parents had a bird feeder in the backyard and it was near the house so my mom could see the birds. It was placed away from trees and the roof but the squirrels managed to get to it. The strongest one would leap from the roof to the bird feeder. The whole thing was on top of a metal bar. It would sway back and forth. A lot of seeds would spill out and all the squirrels waiting on the lawn would just nibble away. The strongest squirrel got to sit on the bird feeder and gorge.

I think there are some bird feeders that are weight sensitive. There is a gate that closes down if something heavy like a squirrel sits on it.

I am searching for those bird feeders that are weight sensitive, or those that have spinning wheels around them. I have seen a video, where the squirrel got on it to reach the feeder, and the wheel kept spinning… it got so dizzy it fell to the ground and couldn’t get up for a minute or so.

lol. BB gun? wow, didn’t think you had it in you, zakiah.

I think I would do anything to save my birds, my flowers and my children and grandchildren. I have a BB gun at home. Never used it, but my son has. He used to scare the bunnies in the yard. 🙂
