A sonnet.

What does a Big Bang mean?
A speck some astronomers told us about?
Was the bang big? There were no dimensions then.
May be it was just a ping that reached us billions of years later
How easily we accept this relic of time
When the universe changed from a thin watery monotony
Into the asymmetry where things were invented~
The fragrance of perfume on your body
The unintended caress on my arms
I look at you and don’t know where we are
I whisper please stay, so we can get where we are going
Your presence, my love, brings new dimensions to
The blip of ancient asymmetry, stay so we can dance and wonder,
How ardent the love, how deep, how eternal.

About Zakiah

I write poetry and some fiction, have a book that was published in 2012. . . Stray Thoughts/Winged Words. I have four grandchildren, ages 16 and half to almost 16 months. I love the ocean, and grew up along the Indian Ocean in South India. I am a retired physician. Don't know much else to say. Thanks for reading. That has been my profile for so many years. My daughter Saadia a great poet and story teller, has two sons; the oldest grandson is now 21 years old, doing architectural engineering at Missouri S&T in Rolla MO. His younger brother is almost 16 and taking driving lessons seriously and is in High School. The other two grandsons, children of my son Sayeed, are 9 and 5. I have recently published another book titled Gulistan, A home of Flowers. It has stories and memories of my childhood and of a distant land which I still consider as my HOME., even though I have lived here in the US for more than fifty years. Hope to see you on my blog.

  1. Perhaps love is the big bang?

  2. sunsetdragon says:

Ahh yes and I remember that year, one whole year, filled with exactly what you wrote about here.
So much more than just passion-and he slipped away to the other side-but in my heart the light of his love still glows and when he comes to mind warms my heart.
The thought of him makes this world a beautiful place to dwell.
Ty for your words you share.
    Hugs

    Are you feeling any better?

  6. Yes , Zakiah love has no dimension of time or space nor measure.
this is said in a beautiful poem whom you have the secret .
    Love ❤
    Michel

      Dear Michel,
So true, no? Love has no dimension of time or space. How easily we say how much we love a person… but there really is no measure to that pure love.
      Thank you,

      Zakiah.

  7. How are you, Zakiah ?
    Love
    Michel

when i started reading the first line, i automatically thought you might be talking about a korean boy band called BIG BANG. they are very famous here in asia. then the next few lines brought my attention to a focus. lol.
this poem somehow makes me think about ‘time’. how it passes by so quickly without us noticing. how we seem to get lost by continue chasing after it in order to gain more opportunities to accomplish things we have yet to accomplish.

  9. Zakiah says:

It is about TIME! And about love and its ephemeral presence in our lives. Thank you for your comment Rudy.
